Community Comes Together for Rainy Day Cleanup at PMHS
Despite dreary skies and soggy conditions, a dedicated group of volunteers gathered at Pope Memorial Humane Society last Saturday for our annual Cleanup and Cookout and made a big difference.
The weather may not have been ideal, but that didn’t stop this small and mighty team from rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. Volunteers scraped and painted doors and benches, weeded the gardens, potted plants, scrubbed the siding, raked gravel in the dog pens, and hauled countless loads of wood chips to refresh the dog walking path. Their efforts transformed the shelter grounds and helped us start the season with fresh spaces for both our animals and visitors to enjoy.
After a productive morning, volunteers gathered in the PMHS community room to share lunch, reconnect, and, of course, laugh about the weather. There was no shortage of good food, warm conversation, and the kind of camaraderie that makes this annual event so special.
We want to give a special thank-you to the Key Club students from Oceanside High School. Not only did they help prepare and set up lunch, but they also pitched in with the wood chip hauling and window washing, all on their prom day! Your generosity and hard work did not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for your time.
And a shout-out to the AKtion Club for putting on their rain gear and muscling through raking the pea gravel in the dog pens! This group of kindhearted folks shows up every year, and we can’t thank them enough!
Our community is the best, and we are so grateful that you also take pride in the shelter. Your support keeps Pope Memorial Humane Society looking its best even on the dreariest days!
From all of us at Pope Memorial Humane Society, thank you to everyone who made the day a success. And here’s hoping for sunshine next year!
