Art for the Animals

There has been a long tradition of local artists supporting the work of Pope Memorial Humane Society. The Art for the Animals auction secured funding to purchase the land we are on and supported operations as an annual event for over twenty years. Continuing that tradition, the Art Wall allows artists to display their work and show support for all that PMHS does for the community and its animals in need.

All work exhibited can be purchased, with a percentage of the selling price donated to support the work of Pope Memorial Humane Society. If you are interested in exhibiting your artwork and supporting the Shelter and would like further information, please email art@popehumane.org.

Pope Memorial Humane Society is thrilled to announce that the newest exhibition of artwork is now being displayed on the Art Wall in the lobby of the shelter. The current show, featuring pieces by Mary Jane Martin, is on display and available for purchase through Mid-July.

Mary Jane Martin has been a resident of Rockland for more than 20 years and a lifelong lover of cats and dogs. She divides her time unequally between her dog, painting, writing poetry, and working at the Rockland Public Library. She likes life colorful and straightforward, much like her garden and the artwork she has hung at the Pope Memorial Humane Society. As a self-taught artist and writer, she prefers to keep her work simple and accessible. She has many artistic friends, through whom she attributes her learning to osmosis. 

She showcases an eclectic mix of artwork, including acrylics, watercolor, pencil, photography, and poetry. She likes to show the silly side of life, hoping to make you smile with her mix of photography and poems. She’s hoping you will find the right piece that speaks to you to help contribute to the wonderful work of Pope Memorial.

Pope Memorial Humane Society is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Mary Jane’s artwork and all the adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email art@popehumane.org.
