Reducing the unwanted pet population is a major priority for Pope Memorial Humane Society.

Spaying and neutering companion animals is a major way to accomplish this and has greatly reduced the number of homeless animals in our area. When people need financial help to spay or neuter a cat, dog or rabbit, PMHS provides $100 vouchers. In 2021, PMHS gave $36,000 in spay/neuter vouchers which means 360 animals received sterilization surgery, and countless subsequent unwanted litters have been prevented. When you donate to this fund, it goes directly to spaying and neutering pets from the surrounding area, and supporting people in financial need. This is a way you can directly impact the quality of life for pets and people in mid-coast Maine.
